Smoking A cause of Cervical Cancer
In women the lower part of the womb or uterus is called the cervix. A healthy cervix plays an important role in a normal delivery. In non-pregnant women, the cervix has little function. Cervical cancer is very common among women and ranks sixth.

The early cell changes which are detected on a cervical smear take many years to become cancer and many a times these changes can go away by themselves. Cancer of the cervix is a fatal condition and has two types called squamous cell cancer and adenocarcinoma. If cancer is detected in the early changes, it can be cured with surgery or radiotherapy.

Cervical cancer has no single cause. Smoking increases the women’s risk of developing cervical cancer, so wants to follow the methods. Cervical cancer is commonly seen in people over 50 years of age. To reduce risk of developing cervical cancer, a woman must attend regular cervical smear tests.

The pre-cancerous changes of the cervix do not give any symptoms. They can be detected with a cervical smear test. While some cancers of the cervix do not show any symptoms, most cancers cause bleeding between periods or after sex.

Cervical cancer can be diagnosed through a biopsy of the cervix. It is generally performed at the time of an internal examination called a colposcopy.

The treatment of cervical cancer depends on whether the cancer has spread to other tissues of the pelvis. Mostly the treatment includes a type of hysterectomy called a radical hysterectomy or Wertheim’s hysterectomy. Radiotherapy also forms part of the treatment and destroys tumor cells

Woman have to be really careful not to smoke while they are pregnant. But if they are not able to hold back the addiction they should use a low amount of tobacco cigarettes.
